RIVAL BIDS TO STOP THE FOOTBALL MUSEUM coming to Manchester have been made by two Lancashire councils and a university. Lancashire County Council, Preston City Council and the University of Central Lancashire have put a financial package together to keep the National Football Museum in Preston. Under existing plans, the museum will be moved from Preston North End's Deepdale football ground to Manchester's Urbis centre. A decision will be made on 23 October. MANCHESTER CENTRAL MP WILL REPAY £2,200 of expenses after the audit process of the “Legg Inquiry” ruled he has over claimed on his London Flat. Tony Lloyd said his claims had been made in “good faith” and he had not sought and “would not seek” to make profit from his expenses. Salford MP Hazel Blears has been told she overclaimed £225 for a shelving unit and James Purnell, MP for Stalybridge and Hyde, nearly £500 on rent. |
FLAMES SWEPT THROUGH A PALLET YARD in Miles Platting last night with over 70 firecrews drafted in to help tackle it. The fire, which tore through the building in Lord North Street, threatened a nearby property which contained acetylene cylinders. The roads around Alan Turing Way were closed but have since re-opened. A FAKE FORENSIC SCIENTIST DESCRIBED AS A “SEXUAL PREDATOR” has been convicted of raping young girls. Gene Morrison, 51, had denied 33 sex offences covering a 30-year period. He was found guilty of 14 charges by a jury at Minshull Crown Court and will be sentenced in December.
