BID FAREWELL TO ANALOGUE as today is the last day to make the transition to digital television. The move marks the completion of the Granada region's digital TV switchover, which began on 4 November with the switch off of BBC Two's analogue signal. From today, you must have either cable, satellite or Freeview to watch TV – if not folks, you will be staring at a blank screen.

MEDIEVAL DISHES ARE BEING COOKED UP at the University of Manchester. The creations are courtesy of a fourteenth century cookbook, one of the oldest recipe compilations, stored in John Ryland’s library. Alison Aucott, general catering manager at the library, said it had been a "challenge" deciphering the book, Forme of Cury. The dishes will be made available to the public in the new year.

A MAN HAS BEEN FINED £550 for leaving wheelie bins outside his home. Salford City Council prosecuted Gareth Robinson, 24, saying he had repeatedly failed to take his bins in. Council rules state that bins must be taken in by 11pm on collection day. Mr Robinson has vowed not to pay the fine and has branded the council “pathetic”.

A DUTCH MUM CREATED A NEW IDENTITY to claim 70k in benefits but has been spared a jail term. Leyla Yusuf, 31, from Moss Side, posed as a penniless asylum seeker from Somalia in a scam to double the amount of benefits. Manchester Crown Court handed the mother-of-four a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for two years with supervision.

This ‘N’ That wisdom: Nothing shows a man's character more than what he laughs at.

Taken from the free calendar available at This 'n' That, Soap Street, Northern Quarter. Wisdom rating 8/10

johnthebrief says..“ Who decides the wisdom rating and what criteria are applied?

Disillusioned Dan says..“ They should have taken that recipe book to East Z East... they'd know how to deciper it. ;)

Gordo says..“ JTB, I think you need a drink...

Anonymous says..“ actually the original cookbook is on the John Ryland's website so you can decipher it yourself. Cabbage soup seemed good.
