AN 18-YEAR OLD MALE was taken in for questioning yesterday by Greater Manchester Police on suspicion of the arson attack on the Market Street branch of Miss Selfridge. The force have received praise and support after deterring the riots from the city centre last night and making 145 arrests in relation to the violence.
TJ HUGHES will be closing the doors of their Salford store due to fallout from the riots in Manchester earlier this week. A significant amount of stock was looted from the store and it will cease to trade immediately. TJ Hughes had planned to find a buyer for the local store, but administrators Tom Jack, Ernest & Young have sadly stated that “after the attack this is no longer possible”.
GOLD MEDAL WINNING National Young Designer of the Year, Daniela Coray (26) will be in Manchester tomorrow to open her addition to the Garden City scheme in St John’s Gardens, Castlefield. The garden, funded by Manchester City Council and CityCo, completes a three week rebuild by Daniela and her team following its relocation from RHS Flower Show Tatton Park to the city centre. It will include a mini orchard, wildflowers and a variety of perennial herbs.
AN INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE who stood in the 2009 Doncaster election is to be the drag queen at Manchester Pride Festival later this month. Mr Felse, who currently works as a welfare officer in Manchester, admits his female persona ‘Ethol Mary’ will look "more like a Grimsby docker than Lady Gaga."
FACT OF THE DAY: This week in 1822 the foundation stone of Manchester’s (Old) Town Hall, King Street, was laid. Part of the hall’s façade remains today at Heaton Park.
