COUNCILLOR Nigel Murphy has stated in an exclusive interview with Confidential that cuts play a part in the rise in city centre parking charges and the extension of controlled hours. He said: ‘Spending cuts certainly come into it but congestion is the main thing. There have been a lot of hard choices to be made and we can’t always do things the way we have done. If we want to have the money to reinvest in highways, it can come from parking reserves. If our budget is being taken, we have to find the money from somewhere else.’

Because TfGM isn't TfL and can't do it as easily.
I don't understand why Manchester just doesn't introduce a travel card system like the oyster card. Traveling on different buses, trains or trams is an expensive cost to the manchester commuter and for some it is cheaper to drive in and park their car. If more was done to scale down the costs surely this would help with congestion as more people would commute? I pay up to £100.00 per month for traveling on buses and trains to get to and from work. something needs to be done and quickily.
