PRINCESS STREET has been reopened after police closed it due to a man who was threatening to jump off a building. At 6.10am, police received calls from witnesses who saw the man. Police were forced to cordon off the junctions at Portland Street and Bloom Street but these were reopened at 9am after trained negotiators talked the man down.
A 23-YEAR-OLD MAN has died after falling from a third-floor balcony whilst holidaying in Ibiza. Samuel McCaughey, from Middleton, died on Sunday morning following the fall. The cause has not been specified as of yet however the Civil Guard are now investigating the circumstances.
MANCHESTER AIRPORT has spent £20,000 renovating its Royal Lounge in case of a flying visit from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The lounge has been host to thousands of A-list celebrities and politicians over the years and since William's RAF base is in Anglesey, bosses at the airport knuckled down for fear it “lacked the wow factor”. Accompanying the new furniture and plasma TVs are paintings from L S Lowry as well as a faux fire.
CITY PLAYER, GARETH BARRY has teamed up with Sun and Happiness, a charity which offers ill and poverty-stricken children the chance of a holiday. He has offered his luxury villa in Malaga to be used whenever he isn't there and hopes other footballers will follow suit. He said, “It’s a pleasure to donate my holiday home to this fantastic charity and I look forward to hearing the holiday stories of these amazing kids."
