GREATER Manchester Police has arrested more than 230 people in connection with last week's riots. More than 130 criminals have already been charged with violent and disorderly offences as the police continue efforts to identify suspects. Last Friday, the police launched the 'Shop-a-Looter' campaign posting digital images of looters on travelling billboards and on big screens in Piccadilly Gardens and the Printworks, to encourage the public to help identify suspects. GMP says it has been 'inundated' with tip-offs.

FRED Walker, chairman of Greater Manchester Fire Authority and Labour Councillor for Wigan, is expected to resign after making expenses claims of more than £20,000 between April 2008 and October 2010. Walker claimed he had not broken the rules but admitted he had been 'lax' about making claims, including several £345 train journeys to London.

SHOPPERS have covered a wall in the Arndale centre with post-it notes of personal reflection on the riots in Salford and Manchester. Adam Brookes placed a stack of post-it notes and a bunch of pens on a table outside Foot Asylum and invited visitors to post their comments on the wall beside the store. By yesterday afternoon more than 2,000 messages had been posted in a variety of languages.

TWO people have been charged with the murder of a person found dead inside a suitcase at a house on Victoria Street in Openshaw. The gender of the victim has not been determined. A 50-year-old man and 30-year-old woman are due to appear at Manchester Magistrates court later.
