THE LATEST EXTENSION to Manchester’s Metrolink is finally ready to open. The new line, which will link Chorlton to the existing network, could be open at the end of the month, depending on the outcome of initial tests, whilst we may also learn the date for the planned Oldham line.

DRIVERS IN MANCHESTER could soon have to pay for parking in the city centre until 8pm, and, for the first time, on a Sunday, if new proposals are approved. Drivers currently have to pay to park between 8am and 6pm, but proposals had been made to extend this from 7am to 7pm, although this has now been altered, and is set to be introduced in September.

A 24 YEAR-OLD MAN has died after being involved in a hit-and-run in Bury on Sunday night. The incident happened on Dumers Lane, Radcliffe at around 8.50pm and the man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries, which he later died from. Three people were arrested in connection, but later bailed. Police are appealing for information.

TWO MEN ARE TODAY due to appear in court as part of a continuing investigation into child sex exploitation in Rochdale. They are the tenth and eleventh people to be charged in the investigation. Eight men were charged earlier this month, another was bailed until August 22, and police are seeking two others.
