FORMER MANCHESTER CITY CAPTAIN Mike Doyle has died aged 64 after being treated for liver failure. He was the team’s captain during its winning league season in 1976. Doyle played for England five times during his lifetime.
A CONSERVATIVE COUNCILLOR IN MANCHESTER has been charged for abusing his wife. Faraz Bhatti, who sits on Manchester City Council for the Whalley Range area, has allegedly gone as far as even chocking his wife. Prosecutor Michael Murray at Liverpool Crown Court said: "Right from the off, the defendant was abusive, threatening, controlling and violent towards his wife”. Bhatti is also accused of threatening to kill his wife, should she go out to work. The trial continues.
A TEN-YEAR-OLD GIRL has been sexually assaulted in Stockport. The victim was grabbed by a man in Mill Lane, near Reddish Vale Country Park, between 5.30pm and 6pm on Friday. Police have released CCTV imagery of the attacker and are urging anyone with any information to come forward. Police are also investigating another incident involving a twelve-year-old girl on the same day.
GREATER MANCHESTER POLICE have confirmed that up to 900 jobs will be cut in the coming years. Chief Constable Peter Fahy admits the process will be extremely painful, but he will do his best to protect front-line policing. The redundancies are to cut the funding by 4 per cent, saving a large sum of £33m. By 2015, a total loss of 1,387 police officers and 1,557 civilian posts are expected to be shed.
