OVER 70,000 people are estimated to have turned up for the second Manchester Day Parade. Around 96 community groups and 3000 parade walkers took part in this year’s major event. The council have said that this year “surpassed all expectations”
A BLACK WOMAN has been jailed for using a white woman’s identity for twenty years. The black woman, who had been living under the name Carol Ann Heast, was caught out after a trip to Spain with her partner. Her partner, the TV film producer Tom Henderson, was apparently unaware of his girlfriend’s deception. The black woman has refused to give her real identity, and has been jailed for nine months.
A MAN who stabbed a woman to death for asking him to pick up his litter was found dead after hanging himself in his jail cell. Stuart Aherne was 18 when he murdered Jean Ryder, 45, in Wythenshawe in 2003. Aherne was pronounced dead at HMP Lindholme, South Yorkshire on Saturday morning.
A THUG set a baby rabbit on fire in a pub in Eccles before killing it completely. The man is said to have been in the pub trying to sell the rabbit to regular pub goers, but to no avail. The man then went outside into the beer garden and forced a lit cigarette into its mouth. He then smashed it against a picnic table before setting it alight. Detectives and the RSPCA are now studying CCTV in order to take action.
Fact of the day: In this week in 1885 Adela Pankhurst was born in Manchester. Once an active suffragette, she later moved to Australia, estranged from her family.
