METROLINK has told Confidential the Chorlton spur from Trafford Bar should open later this month, if final checks are successful. The new line will run between Chorlton and the city centre every 12 minutes, with stops at St Werburgh’s Road, Chorlton-cum-Hardy and Firswood, and take 15 minutes. Driver training and commissioning work on the line are in their final stages.

A LANDLADY with a property in Harpurhey has been fined £1337.66 for renting out a house without a licence. Atinuke Ogundere pleaded guilty at Manchester Magistrates Court to letting out a house on Leegrange Road without a licence, a legal requirement. Ms Ogundere was contacted several times but told the court she lived in London and couldn’t travel to Manchester as it was awkward for her. The court told her to obtain a licence or face prosecution again.

HOMELESS men living in a Salford hostel fear they could be out on the streets after Salford Council revealed they are considering closing Lancaster House in Eccles. The 38 bed building is home to several men with mental health problems but could close due to budget cuts. Salford Council insisted no firm decision had been made.

TWO MEN and a woman have been arrested after a man died from stab wounds in Pendlebury. Police found the group carrying a 26 year old man with stab wounds on Hospital Road, Salford, and are investigating whether the victim was the intruder at a reported burglary on Ethel Avenue, Salford, where the group may live.

Fact of the Day: This week in 1881 women were allowed to join Manchester Statistical Society. This was founded 1833 to study social issues of the booming industrial town. It was one of the first official bodies to allow female members.
