POLICE have identified the man shot in his car on Monday night as 44-year-old Ian Taylor. Taylor was a passenger in the Citroen on Floatshall Road in Wythenshawe. The victim was taken to hospital but died shortly afterwards. A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, and is being questioned. Forensic officers are continuing their investigations.

RICKY HATTON has shown his support in favour of turning a derelict building in Oldham into a gym. He says it will give a ‘boost’ to the local community, providing many people with more opportunities. Hatton already runs a gym in Hyde with state-of-the-art fitness facilities. Oldham Council has given the abandoned Victoria House on Greaves Street to the Oldham Boxing and Personal Development Centre.

A TODDLER in Rochdale has been struck down by the E-Coli infection. Joseph Grumbridge, 20 months old, fell ill visiting an aunt in Scotland. He was rushed to hospital in Inverness with kidney failure, but is now in Royal Manchester Children’s hospital recovering from major surgery. The cause of the infection is not yet known; Rochdale’s environmental health department has launched an investigation.

HOSPITAL A&E staff in Manchester have been flooded by female Take That fans who have been taking that alcohol and partying. The women, who turned up early to get near to the stage, drank excessive amounts of alcohol in the queue and at the concert. Women are being treated in hospitals despite warnings from police and hospitals to drink responsibly. Some people won’t listen.

Fact of the day: This week in 1928 Emmeline Pankhurst died. Born in Manchester, she founded the Women’s Social and Political Union - the Suffragettes.
