“Have you ever felt like shooting Colonel Galaxy, Niagara?”, asks Gordo of ex Punk Rocker and current ‘low brow’ pop artist Niagara. An astonishingly good looking blond pocket battleship of indeterminate age. Colonel Galaxy is Niagara’s pal back from the days of The Stooges and Niagara’s band Destroy All Monsters. Colonel is still her, well, lover. And Gordo is jealous. A big bear of a man dressed in black from his Cuban heels up to his Ray Bans and jet black scruffy hair, Gordo knows he is going to get on well with him.

“Almost happened with a shotgun darlin’, remember?” drawls the Colonel.

“Yeah,” replies Niagara, “I was pretending that I didn’t notice the safety was off…”

Colonel Galaxy didn’t, apparently, require a hair parting for a while.

'that’s Gordo over there Colonel, kill him again…'

Niagara has arrived late for a date with Gordo and Byron, the TV showbiz gaffer at the rapidly improving Channel M. The date is at The Richard Goodall Gallery in the Northern Quarter where she is exhibiting her aptly, for The Colonel, named show, ‘Get Outa My Line of Fire”. She was stuck on the tarmac in a thunderstorm at Detroit for five hours, arriving at the Gallery pretty knackered and with no luggage. Gordo takes pity on her and takes her and The Colonel to his favourite boozer a few doors down, the Bay Horse.

Now, Gordo is a crap interviewer and a crap art pundit. But he knows a good thing when he sees it art-wise, as well as bowing low to a stunning strap line writer. Niagara is on record as saying that it’s usually the men who are crying in her paintings. Take the centre piece of the current exhibition’ “You’re A Nice Man In A Nasty World, Mac, That’s All- Now Get Outta My Line Of Fire”. That’s all that was needed to catch Gordo’s attention. A Marvel Comics frame in black and white with a big splash of pink for the heroine’s lips. This lady is a good looker with a hard past. Mac is no match for her; but isn’t it strange how all the good looking strong women always go for the wimps? Oh well.

Gordo finishes off the night by taking Richard, owner of The Richard Goodall Gallery, his son Jodie, Niagara and Colonel Galaxy down to Establishment, the fine dining restaurant at the top of King Street for dinner. Gary Lewis, the Gaffer, gave Gordo one of his ‘where the hell does he get his pals from?’ looks and then proceeds to deliver one of the best dinners of the month. Gordo spent two happy hours in the company of this couple who are an art form in their own right and super company. It was a shame to see Niagara go, but probably for the best. Gazing into Niagara’s eyes was a bit like gazing into a dark beautiful pool. Far too easy to fall in. Gordo kept breaking the spell by reminding himself of the strap line on another painting, one of a beautiful redhead in 1930’s Shanghai, demurely fanning herself. From her cruel rose petal red lips comes, “Kill Him Some More”.
