This makes a refreshing change. There’ll be no laptops or iPods in sight at Venus The Club, Blackfriars Street on Friday 24 September, as amateur DJs battle it out on the decks.
They’ll be mixing in the regional final in a bid to be crowned the world’s king or queen of DJs by BBC Radio One’s Judge Jules.
The event has been put together by Corona Extra which is celebrating its tenth international Movida Corona DJ competition.
The winner in Manchester will join three other English finalists at London’s Ministry of Sound on Tuesday 19 October with a chance to represent their country in the Grand Finale in Berlin on Saturday 4 December.
The Grand Finale is a global event, with hopefuls from countries including Italy, France, Norway and Dubai. The competition is recognised as a launch pad for the careers of talented, up-and-coming DJs. This year’s national final has top DJ Wally Lopez as part of the judging panel and competitors are set to perform before an audience of 2,000 clubbers and house music enthusiasts.
The Movida Corona qualifying heats have been running since May in major towns and cities including Manchester.
Organiser of Movida Corona and former Movida World Champion, Andy Milford, said: “It is fantastic to have seen the competition grow and develop over the past decade. In successive years the DJ talent coming through has never failed to push the bar even higher than before.”
Doors will open at 10pm.
