BOP LOCAL is to celebrate its first birthday on Friday 1 July at Chorlton Irish Club. DJ Phil Beckett and XFM’s Clint Boon will be there to provide the music and some raffle prizes.
Bop Local nomadically shifts between towns, giving everyone a chance to appreciate its cheap and cheerful presence.
Since the club first opened in June 2010, it has been a roaring success, attracting people who don’t want to party in the city centre for a variety of reasons, largely to do with age, childcare and all that.
The motto of the club is ‘bringing the dancefloor to your doorstep’ and promotes having a club nearer to your home than the city centre.
If you’re thinking the club isn’t anywhere near where you live, then you’re wrong.

DJs in the past have included Terry Christian (TV presenter/writer/broadcaster), Mike Joyce (The Smiths/BBC 6 Music), Clint Boon (Inspiral Carpets/XFM), Graeme Hawley (Coronation Street’s John Stape), Jeff Hordley (Emmerdale’s Cain Dingle), Peter Hook (Joy Division/New Order/The Hacienda) and Tim Cocker & Jim Salveson (XFM breakfast show team).
