THE Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) is set to embrace the sights and sounds of South America next Saturday when Astillero Tango arrives in Manchester .
Performing alongside RNCM String players, the vibrant Argentinean band is renowned for its driving rhythms and throbbing accents, taking each listener on a rollercoaster ride from start to finish.
Formed in 2005, Astillero comprises seven young musicians who have been steeped in traditional tango from an early age. Now, through their original compositions, they propose a completely new vision of tango reflecting the times we live in and the urban jungle that is 21st century Buenos Aires.
Featuring the typical instruments of a classic tango ensemble – including two bandoneons – the show is completely acoustic and will include video images, both poetic and political, projected live to complement the deluge of sound.
Check them out here.
Astillero Tango and the RNCM String Ensemble can be seen at the RNCM Theatre on Saturday, 9 April at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £17, £15, £12.50 (concessions available). Call the box office on 0161 907 5555 or book online at www.rncm.ac.uk
