Kentucky is famous for a few things, most notably its Fried Chicken, the Kentucky Derby and Woodford Reserve Bourbon.
Presumably the Colonel isn’t going to part with the secret recipe to his crispy coating for love, money nor Harvey Nichols vouchers, and racehorses, no matter how nimble, are never going to be able to negotiate those escalators. So, the Second Floor Restaurant is turning to another famous Kentucky export for inspiration, and will be hosting a series of “Modern Whiskey Tasting” events in conjunction with Woodford Reserve Bourbon.
Woodford Reserve master Distiller Chris Morris will be jetting in from Kentucky, USA to share his extensive knowledge and give an exclusive insight into the world of premium bourbon distillation.
Chris will use his “Flavour Wheel” to illustrate the complex tastes that combine to make fine bourbon and offer advice on the best cocktails and mixers available. Afterwards, guests will be invited to relax in the elegant surroundings of the Harvey Nichols Second Floor Restaurant and enjoy a traditional “Mint Julep” cocktail – the official drink of the Kentucky Derby.
Mint Julep recipe from Woodford Reserve Master Distiller Chris Morris:
• 3-5 mint leaves
• 1tsp Powdered Sugar
• 2tsp Water
• 50 mls Woodford Reserve Bourbon
• Crushed Ice
Muddle (stir/gentle crush) four mint springs and sugar in the bottom of a julep glass. Add water and continue to muddle. Add Woodford Reserve Bourbon. Pack the julep glass with crushed ice. Add a mint spring for decoration and sipping straw.
To complement the Bourbon Event, Alison Seagrave, Head Chef of the Second Floor restaurant, will be preparing a unique Bourbon meal, which will be exclusively available for the night on 14 June. I assume that fried chicken and coleslaw will not be on the menu.
For details on ticket availability, please call 0161 828 8898. Tickets for this event are £10 per head, which is redeemable against dinner in the Restaurant on the evening.
