‘Classy’ and ‘hen do’ are not words that commonly share the same breath. But given my bridesmaid duties I had to take up the mantle and shoehorn them together.
With a wedding overseas it was decided it would benefit all on the financial front if our home stomping ground play host. Manchester it was then.
But somewhere ‘different’.
And somewhere we could be in our own space.
And a dinner would be lovely.
And a cocktail masterclass.
And if it’s nice weather, how about some outdoor space?
And any chance of the moon on a stick?
All things considered, my thinking cap was screaming out that Mint Hotel’s Skylounge could be just what we were looking for.
On the eleventh floor, the roof-top private room is home to one of the most individual dining spaces in the city. It can be set for 40 for a seated but intimate dinner. Or you can opt for a barbecue on the terrace and use the space as standing room. It is rather swanky too. And the views of the city skyline are fabulous.
We were met by the team at Mint and taken up the elevator to the room. It was all set out as desired for a ‘classy’ affair. With bubbles on the balcony it was a suitably girlie welcome. Chattering and nattering out on the balcony was great; there are few places in the city that offer that.
We’d arranged a package that included three courses and half a bottle of wine each for £30 per head. Perfect and great value. Topping up on that, a self-contained cocktail masterclass for £15 per head. After the last one I attended in their Blue Bar it was wise to keep us out of the public domain. Raucous.
Dinner was delicious. Michael Campbell is now at the helm of all things culinary and quite a CV he’s got too. Click here to read more.
The masterclass is where my memory gets sketchy. Fizz and a few wines in, it was no wonder...
But the class was a must. What a hoot. We all took it in turns to shake and make a drink and taste some of the others on offer. The poor bartender did attempt to educate us while we sipped, but I think it’s fair to say we majored on the practical element.
Ideal for any group gathering, the Skylounge is currently running this offer until 15 September, click here to find out more.
