PURITY comes to Peter Street. An unlikely liaison in the light of its past bar scene, but the newcomer’s imminent arrival is just one more sign of this deadzone reinventing itself.
They are installing a baby white grand and importing club pianists from London to provide a jazz soundtrack.
The folk who brought you the Pure are opening Purity in the old Bar 38 building at the end of April. The target is 'discerning drinkers' against a suitably elegant backdrop. They are installing a baby white grand and importing club pianists from London to provide a jazz soundtrack. Downstairs there’ll be a separate dedicated club space with a Funktion One sound system.
The food offering is hearty all-day comfort food – with a twist (there’s always a twist). Daytime there’s a range of sweet and savoury waffles, while in the evening punters get to cook Argentine steaks to their taste on white hotplates of volcanic rock at table. Oh and there’ll be a distinctive cocktail range. They hope to make most of the light-filled mezzanine balcony level and the extensive outdoor terrace on Great Northern Square.
The same weekend Brewdog Bar launches in the old Electric Boogaloo premises. Originally the maverick Scottish craft brewers planned to open up in the Northern Quarter but switched to Peter Street, where their neighbour will be Trof’s planned venture in what was Brannigans.
steak and waffles, a white baby grand and peter street's finest 'discerning drinkers'??? oh dear... sounds a bit like a trailer trash tribute to Dallas.
Are they really going to call the club Funktion One, or is it going to have a Funktion One soundsystem installed and you've just misread the information?
Anyway the more nice places to drink, the better, even if it does sound a bit much.
This is a great space with great potential. I'm liking parts of this concept. Not sure I've fully grasped the idea. Waffles? You don't mention whether the licensees intend having discussions with their residential neighbours, as many are starting to do. Let's hope so.
This sounds interesting and a better use of what should be a great venue than the current offering. You sure Brewdog will be moving in at the same time? I walked past not long ago and it didn't even look like work had begun!
Sounds horrendous. Trailer trash tribute ideed! Brewdog will be wondering what they've got themselves into...
One other thing: there's plenty of good pianists in Manchester.

Brewdog need their er, collars feeling...
"The folk who brought you the Pure" as in the club in the Printworks? Please say it isn't so....
