Seasonal Spirit Trail Warms City Ramblers

THE Liquorists fought off the cold with their Seasonal Spirit and Cocktail Trail on Friday evening, leaving the wandering party full of a warm festive booziness that fits with this time of year. 

An eager bunch of ramblers were already chatting around a table, the atmosphere friendly and welcoming.

Expert tours of some of the city’s finest bars has been something The Liquorists have been perfecting over recent months, and their latest maraud around town was a Christmas night out to remember. 

Our part tour guide, part drinks expert, for the evening was Charlene and she got the action under way at The Lowry Hotel bar. An eager bunch of ramblers were already chatting around a table, the atmosphere friendly and welcoming.

Bacardi Superior was the first to be sampled, neat to begin with, then in the form of a spiced pear Bacardi martini. 

The group moved onto Apotheca, and began to learn a little more about Southern Comfort. The bartenders knocked up apricot southern jams for everyone, and the festive mood was picking up. 

At 24 Bar and Grill the attention was turned to Kettle One Vodka. The staff were excellent, taking the time to talk the group through the invention of the ‘long cold nice’ – a new cocktail using Kettle One invented by one of 24’s bartenders. 

Sandinista brought spiced Christmas eggnog with Havana Club Seleccion de Maestros rum, as the festive spirit really began to cheer the group. 

The trail lead to The Moose Bar, Spinningfields, for the finale of the seasonal spirit trail. Grand Marnier hot toddies warmed the, by now sufficiently cozy, group as anticipation for the Mountain Kitsch-Inn feast began to build. 

It didn’t disappoint. Pea and ham soup, cheese fondue, a selection of sausages and wild boar steak with mustards, and warm gingerbread cookies with cinnamon custard for desert. 

The whole evening had been fantastic. Five bespoke cocktails, five liqueur samples, five crafted food pairings, in five of the city’s finest bars, all culminating in a feast in one the city’s most festive bars. 

The Liquorists really have got the hang of panning fun trails of quality drinks and food that fit around the theme perfectly. The Seasonal Spirit Trail is one of their best yet, and with the atmosphere always friendly and relaxed, it means that anybody can get involved.
