Four courses with ½ bottle of wine only £25
This is the full works from Confidential favourite Choice restaurant in Castlefield. We rocked up there on a week day lunch time for a long, relaxing escape from the office, but you can use this deal any time, day or evening (apart from Saturdays after 6pm).
The experience started with a kick in the pants – the amuse bouche was a spicy shot of Bloody Mary that woke up our taste buds ready for the feast ahead.
Next we indulged with the rabbit and fois gras terrine – a decadent dish accompanied by a very cheeky sweet carrot chutney. The pepper and goats cheese tartlet was delicious – the pastry was reminiscent of short bread and the red pepper tapenade finished it off nicely.
For the main event, we had the sea bream fillet. It was actually a red sea bream and it sat perfectly a top the base of aubergine curry – an imaginative alternative to rice. The Bavette steak meanwhile was served in succulent pink slivers with sweet potato wedges. 'Bavette' (skirt steak) is a cut more commonly seen in France. If this dish is anything to go by, it deserves to be as popular over here. The desserts kept our spirits soaring...a hazelnut brulee with chunks of nut inside a wicked sesame brittle, and a cherry tartlet with a hint of mint, doused in sweet syrup – straight to the hips but worth it.
Portions are generous (build up an appetite before you go) and the recommended rosé wine is a very pleasant companion. We'd go back and do it all again in a flash.
It's only available until the end of August though – so book in now before it goes.
