TNQ is the paired-down name for the place many people know as the Northern Quarter Restaurant.
It's got our favourite outside drinking area in that part of town an almost Parisian scattering of pavement tables which make a good cocktail-sipping spot in summer. It's also one of our favourites for food, so we were very happy to go and test drive this Strictly deal.
We started with the herring dish delicate and unusual it was a carefully balanced beginning to a delightful meal. The goats curd was quickly polished off breaded and deep fried, this is an ideal way to serve this soft cheese. The roasted beetroot accompaniment had an earthy, hearty flavour that contrasted well.
For our main we had the chicken dish. Calling it a 'kiev' doesn't really do it justice it's miles away from the sort you'd find in a supermarket freezer aisle. It was summer on a plate: garlic oozed out of the succulent chicken and there was a cheeky salsa verde laced through the veg mini bursts of flavour from capers, gherkins and citrus fruits.
The sea bass and clams were warmed by chilli rather than overwhelmed by it. And it came with a rainbow of tomatoes reds, yellows, borderline green tigerellas each one offering a different element to this very pleasing dish.
You can choose your dessert from the daily-changing options on the board. We had their 'flagship' cheesecake. It was awesome. It lasted just long enough for us to appreciate the candied mint sprig a-top before we devoured it. Full marks to them.
At just £19.99 for a starter, main and dessert plus a glass of wine, this is a deal you have to take up. It'll end on 31 August though, so make sure you schedule it in.
