LivingVenturesFields Expands: A New Deli-Cafe On Way

Peppermint Bay latest addition to Spinningfields

LivingVenturesFields Expands: A New Deli-Cafe On Way

AFTER The Alchemist, Australasia and the Oast House, Spinningfields is getting another Living Ventures operation, Peppermint Bay.

The name comes from a bay close to Hobart in Tasmania. This reflects boss Tim Bacon's antipodean ancestry - as does Australasia nearby. He really should get a grant from the Australian Tourist Board.

This is described as a 'new deli style café, drifting on a cool, continental theme which brings together the zesty flavours of the New World with la dolce vita.'

Food will include snacks and meals including Turkish flatbreads, salads, sushi and  home-made, jammy dodgers among much else. There's French or Italian coffee, a range of hot chocolates, alongside champagne and wine.

Peppermint Bay promises a spectacular food counter, with seating for 70 inside, and an outdoor terrance that can accommodate the somewhat suprising number of '200 guests'.

The name comes from a bay close to Hobart in Tasmania. This reflects boss Tim Bacon's antipodean ancestry - as does Australasia nearby. He really should get a grant from the Australian Tourist Board. A big one.

It will be interesting to see how this latest venture works out. Australasia is doing well at one end of The Avenue, and the Oast House has got off to a flying start at the other.

But Peppermint Bay is right outside the entrance of the Magistrates Court, champagne and restraining orders, finger sandwiches and assault charges don't seem like a marriage made in heaven.

But Living Ventures have a record of making these things work, and the new place might also help The Avenue. Already with the opening of the arcade of Avenue North, but especially with the Oast House, footfall has stepped up at The Avenue.

Good teas, wines, snacks and cakes, might further add to numbers seeking out and finding Spinningfields hidden shopping delights, as well as boosting Living Ventures coffers.

Peppermint Bay will open week beginning 7 November.

It's very good if you get the 50% off card, otherwise horrendously overpriced. £5 for what's basically a cheese and ham sandwich, £3.20 for a small hot chocolate...
