This little pig went to Luso

Once upon a time there were three little piggys. One of them lived in a house made of straw, one in a house made of sticks, and one in a house made of bricks.

The little piggy with the house made of bricks lived there happily for a few years before taking advantage of the housing boom, selling up at a great profit, and moving to a sweet city centre penthouse.

The other two however, ended up joining some other little piggys and going for dinner at Luso. And not as paying guests I can tell you. Well, they would insist on making their houses out of straw and sticks – hardly the safest option with hungry people around.

Luso, the terrific Portugese Restaurant on Bridge Street, will be serving their special Portugese style suckling pig every other Tuesday - each time using a different variation of the dish and with different accompanying courses.

This week for example, Luso served a four course menu, stuffing their suckling pig with black pudding and serving it up with apple mash, sage & red wine jus and sage crisps.

Guests were also treated to a Chinese pork salad and a spiced apple sorbet to start, and then Portuguese apple & Aniz friters with vanilla ice cream for dessert.

Next time, on January 23rd, the piglet (from the straw house) will be marinated in ten year old apple brandy, and again served as part of a four course meal. The menu costs £30 per head.
