Eat less, exercise more. It's a simple equation, yet one which one in four overweight adults in the UK still can't adhere to. If we carry on as we are, by 2050 it's estimated that nine in 10 adults will be overweight or obese.
By simply swapping your regular dinner plate for The Diet Plate, you can expect to lose between 1-4lbs a week.
Portion sizes play a large role in weight gain and the struggle to keep those extra pounds off. The bottom line? We're eating more than we need.
Think about your own daily meals. Do you eat what is put in front of you or do you actually think about how hungry you're feeling before tucking in? Suzi Godson, author of The Body Bible says: 'Today's oversized portions get eaten even though they are neither wanted or needed. Remember, your unfed stomach is about the size of your clenched fist and if you are trying to lose weight, no portion of food you eat should ever be larger than that.'
As eating is a pleasurable activity for most, weight loss can be difficult to put into effect and even harder to sustain. The Diet Plate however, has been designed with this in mind.
The simple, yet ingenious calibrated plate provides a complete weight management system with minimum effort for the user. There's no need to count calories, points or fat grams with The Diet Plate method. Local entrepreneur Kay Illingworth from Glossop, came up with the idea for The Diet Plate after piling on seven stones through comfort eating and a lack of control over her increasing appetite.
Kay visited a dietician who gave her a healthy eating plan and asked her to weigh out all the food each time she cooked. She thought this an unreasonable request and, in a flash of inspiration, came up with The Diet Plate. She proceeded to lose nearly six stones using it.
By simply serving food hot from the stove to your diet plate and adhering to the tape measured boundary for starchy carbohydrates and protein, all the counting is done for you. By simply swapping your regular dinner plate for The Diet Plate, you can expect to lose between 1-4lbs a week.
On top of this, you can eat whatever you love to cook as it accommodates any type of meal. There is also a calorie controlled breakfast cereal bowl available, which gives you a 200 calorie serving of any cereal by simply filling your cereal of choice, dry weight, to the correct colour band as seen on the chart. All products come with weight loss/cereal charts and instruction leaflets on use. It will suit your chosen lifestyle and is a perfect complement to combine with weight loss and exercise.
Backed by independent obesity expert Dr Ian Campbell, who has appeared on TV programmes such as the BBC 1 series Fat Nation and ITV's Fat Chance, The Diet Plate is also widely recognised for its role in the management of diabetes, a condition linked to carrying excess body weight. A study by Dr Sue Pederson of the University of Calgary in Canada, showed that one third of people with diabetes who used The Diet Plate over a period of six months decreased their reliance on diabetes medication, including insulin. They also showed documented weight loss 80 per cent greater than her control subjects, and decreases in cholesterol levels.
Dr Ian Campbell says: “Losing weight is never easy, and even harder for diabetics. The Diet Plate puts control back in the hands of the individual and makes it much easier for everyone who wants to lose weight and reap the health benefits.”
We're giving away The Diet Plate family pack which includes a plate for Mum, a plate for Dad and a plate for a child.
The Diet Plate female version is designed for those with under five stones to lose. The male version is for men, and women who have more than five stones (30kg) to lose. Women who start on this plate may need to use the female version of the plate when they are down to the last five stone (30kg) of their programme. The male version is not redundant though, as it can double up as a method of maintaining the weight loss when you reach goal weight. Both the male and female plates are 11" (28cm).
The Diet Plate has also designed a healthy eating plate for kids in light of increasing child obesity. The Magic Plate for kids aged three to 10 years old, gives the correct portion sizes for a healthy child who is enjoying some fatty/sugary snacks in their diet too. Girls can carry on using this plate as long as they have weight to lose but boys should move to the male plate when they start to experience rapid growth spurts and reach puberty.
All plates are made out of beautiful fine earthenware and are microwave and dishwasher proof.
