Mark and Sonny, two pals of Gordo’s who own and manage the long established Velvet bar and restaurant on Canal street invited fifty or so Heroes to come and have dinner with them a couple of weeks ago; the boys were keen to impress them with their new spring/summer menu (click here), cooked by chef Tom Parkin who has been with them for donkeys years.
Rowetta, star of stage screen and TV was there to embarrass Gordo into doing the twist; Gordo had just eaten the cheese and onion pie, which was a belter and the size of a small UFO. The Girls Linda and Katey sitting next to him dragged him up.
Velvet, for those who are unaware of its existence is arguably the best venue in the village for dining, as well as having a fantastic bar upstairs, the food is very well cooked modern British with a bit of Americana thrown in. Lively, don’t go if you’re a boring fart.
The heroes loved it; they were welcomed with a cocktail upstairs in the bar, and then led downstairs for the meal. Like Gordo, they probably weren’t expecting to be frog-marched onto the dance floor, but they lost their inhibitions after a few bottles of wine and, as always, finished up with great big smiles on their faces.
