Council plans to buy site near First Street

We have a better council than most Mel. That's a silly comment. It's akin to the fools who think all politicians are bent. They aren't

But how else could the Manchester ratepayer keep the handful of property barons, (inc. A. S. & especially K.) who run this city, afloat in times of over-supply of office space?

Mel I understand where you are coming from, especially as I was one of the council employees who left voluntarily (more like told if we didn't leave we would be forced out, but hey I digress). But when you look at the fact that by getting rid of the team of 36 that I was a part of, the council are saving themselves £1.6m, so it can easily be seen where it was funded from.

But is the Council not tasked with saving money as part of the overall austerity measures put in place by central Government? If they save it in one place and then spend it in another, it really doesn't make sense does it? Hope that your're having some good fortune with the job hunting :))

Anyway - i would prefer that they still looked at further developments that they could make to our great city that could result in further construction, improvements and a better economy - then maybe less people will be made redundant in the future. They can't just stop spending money all together just because they have to make some cuts.

Mel - I guess the council would defend it as being the difference between capital and revenue spend. One off purchases of buildings and land can be justified if they are to the long term benefit of the local authority and their strategy for the city. The problem with jobs and services such as libraries are the ongoing year-on-year costs, which when you're having your budget slashed year-on-year prove difficult to maintain.

That's FEWER people, OFSTED, not LESS.

Is anyone else concerned that a new Ofsted inspector is uses the term 'lol' and doesn't have great grammar? No offence meant - just an observation.

Mel - I support your thinking. People laid off, services slashes, scare tactics from our council about having to save money... Hmmm. Doesn't stack up, no matter which pots of money pay for what. MCC has kept far too many people waiting far too long on the cut backs and redundancies and I feel very sorry for the way people have been treated.

So cutting services, unable to empty the bins, streets are dirty and you're sacking people. Yet you can afford to spend money like this?
If I turned to my family and said that I wasn't going to feed them, pay the bills or clothe them because I wanted to buy the house next door too, I'm sure I'd be arrested for criminal neglect.

As regard the cuts and there affect, you aint seen nothing yet. You think its bad now, just wait till next year.
