The Magic Loungeabout

Get your tickets for this foodie-friendly music festival in the Yorkshire Dales

When you're in your early twenties, the idea of spending four days in a muddy field avoiding flying pints of suspect liquids might sound like fun. But as you get older, music festivals rapidly start to lose their appeal.

2008's festival featured Ladytron, Gary Numan and a late night cocktail party hosted by acclaimed compilation series Light Night Tales, so you can expect something special.

So if you still like listening to live music, what do you do? In recent years a range of smaller, more intimate music festivals have sprung up to cater for those who want a slightly more sophisticated weekend away – and Loungeabout in Yorkshire has a reputation as one of the best.

It debuted onto the festival scene in 2008 as a 24-hour event for 'civilized hedonists'. With numbers limited to 3000, a backdrop of acoustic and electronic pop, and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, it proved to be a hit.

In 2010, it returns with an extra day of entertainment and a location closer to Manchester. This year it will be held at Broughton Hall, near Skipton. It’s a gem of a spot and tucked just inside the Yorkshire Dales national park. It’s surrounded by beautiful woodland trees, small hills and a brook runs through the middle of the site. To add to the beauty, parking and camping are just a few minutes’ walk from the main stage.

The dates are 31 July – 1 August 2010 and you can extend your stay by arriving on Friday evening and leaving on Sunday evening.

Each of the days will be different – the organisers want to give you the opportunity to live a little and learn a little. Saturday will be about indulging yourself, be it at the cocktail bar or dancing till late, whilst Sunday will be about enriching. So you can take a massage or leave the kids to be told fables whilst you go and listen to inspiring speakers from the world of food, film and travel.

In terms of music, there'll be the best electronic pop on Saturday, whilst Sunday will have more of an acoustic laid back feel. The line-up hasn't been announced yet, but 2008's festival featured Ladytron, Gary Numan and a late night cocktail party hosted by acclaimed compilation series Light Night Tales, so you can expect something special. There will also be a speaker’s tent, a cosy cinema, a restaurant, a tea shop, an old school games room, plus loads of kids activities, spa treatments, a crafts and clothes area and several camping options.

Another big part of 2010's festival will be the top quality nosh on offer, with an on-site Mexican restaurant, a full-on hog roast, a farmers' market, and stalls selling noodles, salad, German sausages, locally produced quality pies, Thai food and more.
