SLEUTH (click here) was doing the family shop at the new MediaCityUK store of Booths (click here). He was also checking up on the car parking rumours.
We are working with Peel Group on a modification, which as soon as it is completed, will mean customers are able to receive discounted or free car parking
Unlike at the nearby Lowry centre people can't park then buy things and get the car parking fee rescinded. People have to pay to shop. While city and town centres love to charge, it's unusual for an out of time supermarket to behave like this.
There are two car parks, a surface and a multi-storey one that people can use but the problem is, it turns out that both are owned by Peel Group, the developer of MediaCityUK.
Everyone agrees that Booths is good for MediaCityUK, everyone wants to see it thrive, but this is a big problem as it tries to establish itself.
There is hope on the horizon.
Graham Booth, Properties Director of Booths, told us this.
“One of the many things Booths prides itself on is the great shopping experience at our stores, we listen to our customers and always try to make food and drink shopping an enjoyable experience. We understand that customers have been unhappy with the parking charges applied at the two car parks surrounding the MediaCityUK store, both of which are owned by Peel Group.
We are now working with Peel Group on a modification to the ticket machines, which as soon as it is completed, will mean customers are able to receive discounted or free car parking (depending on their length of stay) when shopping at Booths.”

or even hear, hear!
Excellent. Will pop back once this is sorted.
My other rant about the ground level car park is the circuitous entry route, ridiculous!
It's a very silly entry route. I found it too but it takes an age to worm your way around
I agree. Have moved from a town with a Booths store & was so pleased when this one opened. I have visited once & it took 3 attempts before I could reach the entrance of the ground carpark & that was only by ignoring the No Entry sign! To then pay to do a shop & ot have it refunded as per my old store was a shock & I am afraid that even as a loyal Booths customer, I will not be returning until the carparking issue has been sorted.
sorry, but forget the shoppers - is it true that Booths employees have to pay car park charges for the privilege of working at Booths?
Agree about the entry route for the ground car park - still haven't figured out how to get in there without ignoring the no entry sign! The car parking charge is a major issue so I hope they can sort this out soon.
Ive been going to the lowry for years and never had to pay for car park, just get your ticket validated on even the smallest purchase gives you 4hrs free parking
excellent news
Went today & they've now changed the way in. You can drive round the multi-storey but now go straight on without having to go right round the other block...
I work at nearby NSPCC today, myself and a colleague decided to try out the new store. However we changed our mind when we discovered that we needed to pay the minimum 1 pound charge for half an hour parking. Look forward to visiting the store when parking fees are wavered.
