Women attack tower for money
Birdhouse Fund benefits as Britain's tallest penthouse gets invaded by Women in Property
Date Published: 17/02/2010
Lots of women rose over Manchester for the Birdhouse Fund and raised £500 last week. They were visiting the home of Jo Farrell and her partner Ian Simpson on the 47th floor of Beetham Tower: Britain's highest penthouse.
Ian Simpson is the architect of the building. You can spot him easily on the pics we recieved. He's the man.
The guests were members of the North West branch of Women in Property (WiP) and 45 of them made the rapid ascent in special speedy lifts.
They stayed for two hours and tore the place apart in a wild party which quickly got out of hand with the ladies dropping Manhattans and bubbly on passers-by from more than 500ft. The police were called and raided the party by helicopter. The blade on the top of the tower wolf-whistled and Ian Simpson sang Andy Williams' 'Music to Watch Girls by'.
Of course none of that happened.
This was a very genteel affair with drinks, snacks and to quote 'a chat about life in the city’s highest home, the rationale behind the Beetham Tower and the design of their property'.
So what is Women in Property? It's a national organisation with over 1,400 members and 12 regional branches representing all disciplines within the property and construction industry and providing a forum 'for business opportunities, the exchange of views, networking and personal development'.
The Birdhouse Fund is a Greater Manchester charity where monies raised go towards helping local women develop their skills and overcome obstacles.
Or scale the heights in this instance.
