Plans In For New Bolton Bus Interchange
Council promises better bus and rails links
TRANSPORT for Greater Manchester has submitted detailed plans for the new rail and bus interchange in Bolton town centre.
The new interchange next to Bolton railway station, on land bounded by Newport Street and Great Moor Street, will replace the existing Moor Lane bus station.
The plans by Aedas Architects submitted to Bolton Council for planning approval show:
- Pedestrian bridge linking bus and rail facilities
- Two lifts
- Sustainable energy initiatives, including rainwater recycling, solar panels, air source heat pumps and low-energy LED lighting
- Access and vehicle waiting facilities for St Patrick's Church
- Secure cycle parking and cyclist facilities
The scheme is being funded through the Greater Manchester Transport Fund and Bolton Council.
Subject to securing the necessary approvals and permissions, the new facility could be operational by 2015.
A Compulsory Purchase Order has been made to acquire the properties and land required for the development, but Bolton Council will continue to negotiate with landowners and tenants.

Yep, Bury looks crap! Fingers crossed this one doesn't.
Why no tram provision?Is Metrolink ever going to come to West of Manchester.
Where do you mean? It already goes to Eccles and Altrincham. Between those lines is mainline railway.
Altrincham is South of Manchester not west. I'm from Salford and find it odd that Swinton, Atherton. Little Hulton, Walkden aren't connected up along with Leigh. Surely all of the Greater Manchester area should be connected together. A few folks I know in Ashton U Lyne will never use the tram from there to Manchester. The train takes just over 10 minutes and with all the stops in between it looks likely that it'll take the tram 30 minutes, possibly longer
