Sleuth's Football Facts For Anoraks

Distances from local Town Hall of Premier League clubs

Sleuth's Football Facts For Anoraks

SLEUTH was having a conversation only football fanatics would appreciate while watching Manchester ‘Barca’ United beating Manchester ‘catenaccio’ City in the Community Shield.

The conversation involved the distance from club grounds to the main Town Hall of the city or town a team represents.

So Sleuth decided to dig out Google maps and get to work.

For Sleuth, Trafford where United resides, is like Islington where Arsenal resides, a suburb of the greater city, thus distances are given from the ground to the principal civic centre of these clubs  – Manchester Town Hall and City Hall, London, respectively.

This is a rationale with which Sleuth is sure Manchester City fans will agree. Although City by a fraction are closer to the Town Hall than the Old Trafford team.

For most other teams in smaller cities things are a bit easier.

Distances in order of proximity

Wolverhampton Wanderers 0.5m 3mins

Newcastle United 0.9m 5mins (0.8m)

Sunderland 1.1m 7mins

Norwich City 1.3m 7mins (1m walk)

Blackburn Rovers 1.5m 6 mins

Wigan Athletic 1.9m 9 mins

Manchester City 2.3m 11mins

Stoke City 2.3m 7mins

Manchester United 2.7m 12mins

Liverpool 2.8m 13 mins

Swansea 2.8m 11mins

Everton 2.9 13 mins

Aston Villa 3.1m 9 mins

West Bromwich Albion 4.2m 12mins

Arsenal  5.3m 19mins

Bolton Wanderers 5.4m 14 mins

Chelsea 6.3m 22mins

Tottenham Hotspur 7.9m 26 mins

Fulham 8m 29mins

QPR 8.3m 28mins

The figures above are meaningless and prove nothing....but that sort of sums up the glory of football.
