IF IT wasn’t for the tight lycra, gym equipment and the synchronised workout moves, you could easily mistake the Reebok Les Mills fitness festival for a major pop concert (but a little sweatier).

Under zig-zagging spotlights and to a soundtrack of thumping dance beats, thousands of fitness fans kicked, punched, spin-cycled, squatted, sat-up and pushed-up in unison at the one-day fitness festival at Manchester Central last Saturday (1 October).
The workout tour - which has visited cities around the world such as Amsterdam and Paris - sold out in 36 hours here in Manchester.
With more than 30 classes to partake in – from high-intensity class GRIT to martial arts inspired workout, Body Combat - the event encouraged fans of the hugely popular Les Mills gym programmes to pump iron in the company of 3000 like-minded buff-bodied fanatics.

The energy is electric,” says Les Mills UK Head Trainer Dave Kyle. “The mission for Les Mills is to create a fitter planet and the world tour is one way of reaching as many people as possible through the power of group exercise.”

The Manchester leg concluded this year's Les Mills global fitness tour, though the event will be returning next year.
